Attention spans are shorter than ever and will continue to shrink, so making sure your first 5 seconds are as compelling as possible is very important. Some good examples of a gripping hook are a surprising fact, an intriguing question, or a visual.

Tell a Story

Stories are a strong way to get people engaged in your video. Having a clear sequence of events with a beginning, middle, and end will give a video great flow and help viewers understand it better. People love stories, and they are a great way to make your content relatable to the viewer. Examples of good stories you can tell within your video are funny stories to hit the viewer’s humor, sad stories to garner sympathy, informative stories to intrigue the viewer, or even skits.

Make it Short

Going back to the attention spans mentioned briefly above, they are shorter than ever, so keeping your video content short will cause maximum viewers. 1-2 minutes is the duration that should be aimed for, anything too short won’t get enough information across, and anything too long, while you can go more in-depth, people will get uninterested and click off. Delivering your message and key information quickly is ultimately the most important currently.

Tailor to Target Audience

This is important for all forms of marketing, but especially for video content. If you upload a video that shares your brand but does not include interests or mentions of your target market, then you might as well not post it. People will simply not watch a video on something they are not interested in, so molding your video content to your target audience is uber-important to keep people watching and engaging with your brand.

Cater to Mobile Viewing

The apps that your video content is most likely to be posted to like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and more are mostly consumed on phones currently.
